After an 0-2 start to the season and another underwhelming season, the former 5 star recruit with very high expectations has completely missed that and have led Florida State to two bad losses, one being an upset loss to unranked Boston College.
DJ Uiagalelei's college career has been considered underwhelming by many analysts and critics, despite being a highly-touted prospect coming out of high school. He was ranked as the number one quarterback prospect in the class of 2020 and had high expectations at Clemson University. This was around guys in his class like Bryce Young and CJ Stroud who are both in the NFL.
However, his performance has been inconsistent, and he has struggled with accuracy and decision-making at times. In his first season as a starter in 2021, he threw more interceptions (10) than touchdown passes (9). Although he showed improvement in 2022, his stats were still not what many had expected. On top of very mediocre performances from the teams he was on, including Clemson, where he was touted as being the second coming to Trevor Lawerence.
Some could say the high expectations on DJ led to his downfall and caused him to become a “broken” QB. He definitely does not look like the same player that played in high school and loss a lot of the confidence he had. We will see what the rest of the 2024 season brings the young QB and if he can rebound for Florida State.
