This Week's Soccer Recap!!!

As we approach the winter transfer window many of Europe's top teams want to add to the roster. The second half of the season is set to be filled with many games, especially in international competitions and UEFA Continental tournaments. Teams all over Europe usually use the winner transfer window to help boost their squad as they are dealing with injuries and a lack of squad depth. For others, many will be looking for players to help with their title challenge in their respective leagues. Here are three clubs that should be active in this winter’s transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham have gotten off to a very inconsistent start to the season. Although they currently are sixth in the Premier League standings the club has dropped many points due to injuries and lack of depth. Tottenham are missing two starting defenders with Micky van de Ven who’s been out with a hamstring injury and club Vice Captain Christian Romero who has missed the last two games with a toe injury. These two have been Tottenham’s best center-back pair and with both out for a lengthy period signing one more center-back during the transfer window wouldn’t hurt. Also, Tottenham suffered another major blow to their defense, with their starting goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario set to miss a significant amount of time due to an ankle fracture he suffered in Tottenham's 4-0 win over Manchester City. Spurs should be on the market potentially looking for a keeper to bring in on loan while Vicario is out.

Manchester City

Manchester City has been one of the best clubs in the world over the past decade, but this season their reign of dominance over the Premier League is starting to be in serious jeopardy as the club finds themselves eight points behind leaders and rivals Liverpool. One key reason for this is the fact that Manchester City has been without the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner Rodri for most of the season as he’s been out with a torn ACL and is unlikely to play this season. Rodri was one of the world’s best players last year, which is the reason he was awarded the Ballon d’Or last month. Many remember the historic unbeaten streak that Manchester City went on that lasted over a year with Rodri in the lineup but the defensive midfielder has been missed by the reigning Premier League champions. If City want to catch Liverpool and keep their hopes of winning five Premier League titles in a row then finding a temporary replacement for Rodri in their midfield is key.

PSG

PSG has dominated French football since getting new owners in the early 2010s, but although they have dominated their domestic league success on the European stage has been seen as a failure to many due to the amount of money they spent on their squad. PSG entered this season without Kylian Mbappe as he left the club on a free transfer to sign with Real Madrid. PSG has gotten off to a good start in their domestic league Ligue 1 but their UEFA Champions League campaign has not been great as they are staring at an early elimination from the tournament in the group stages. Their lack of a clinical finisher has affected PSG as they only have three goals scored in five matches which leaves them 25th in the standings having not won a match in the Champions League since the opening match day win over Girona. PSG has three more group-stage matches left with two taking place in January, the same month as the winter transfer window. Signing a striker during this period will be important for PSG if they hope to advance to the knockout stages of the tournament.
