Another year of NBA2k is quickly approaching and with that comes another year of my Myleague series. This will be my fourth year doing this style of Myleague however, this is my first time writing about the league. The three prior seasons have allowed me to ginny pig with the correct length of the season where I play alongside the current NBA timeline. Majority of the season will be user based, some of the games will be simulated. All of the playoffs will have seven game series that will not be simulated.
The format of this Myleague is pulling a player from NBA history and putting them onto a current NBA team. There are multiple things that go into picking what player is chosen to fit the team. The first is the range the players overall will be in the game. That is determined by how good/bad your team is, the better the team the lower overall the player. The lowest a player can be is an 80 the highest can range year to year but usually only around one or two 90's. What this player is supposed to be is the best fit for the team yes, every team would benefit from an elite shot maker but this project focuses on patching the holes on each NBA team. I don't want these players to take away from the feel of the teams and if done correctly it should balance the talent around making standings look somewhat similar to the real life standings.
In each teams picture you will see the projected starting lineup for the team. Team status is next which can vary from contending, selling, buying, retooling, and rebuilding. The players overall followed by a breakdown of the build using pros, average and cons scale system. The builds body type and positions follow the builds NBA player comparison. This should be noted that similar to the draft this is a player comparison to the build as majority of the builds don't match the overall of the true NBA player. Many of these players are also going to being playing in a different time period and most will be looked at to take on a smaller role. My projection of how good the bench is, will be graded on a letter grade scale. Lastly if interested the teams last year build is named at the end. In the comments drop a name for your favorite team and it might be the players name that is chosen. Some players already have names which will be in parentheses.
Why? This player will be the final complimenting piece to this team that has gained a star this offseason. This build will hustle out of gym maintaining the teams super-star Embiid's health. This build has the defense to guard 1-5 but shooting will hold this build from playing many small forward minutes. This build is meant to amplify the defense of the team and has no problem helping the second unit. Offense will be limited from this build but does have the potential to be a great dunker spot tool for Embiid to operate with similar to Jokic and Gordons connection.
Why? Beasley was not the right player to pair with Lillard last year and maybe Gary Trent Jr. can be that player but if not this build will. Being able to score in isolation and through an offense this build doesn’t need the ball to be effective. However, if needed can be the offensive punch to carry a second unit. On defense this build can be that POA (point of attack) defender that this team needs.
Why? In a way this build is taking away the Zach LaVine show that is about to be this season I think for the Bulls. At least this build gives the team somewhat of a direction. Seeing as these players are only on your team for one year, I’d like this team to go in a more rebuilding route but this build should put them in the play-in at least. The all around scoring of this build will be an upgrade in play than Demar as this build can shoot the ball anywhere on the court. This build also has the ability to run very similar post actions that at times were beneficial for the Bulls.
Why? Not the flashiest of names but remember it’s about the build not the player. I will admit this is one of the only times I’ve picked a player that has never reached that overall in 2k. So his creation process will be different. This builds upside can be that perfect match for this team that is running it back with the same core. Being able to be a POA defender in a league still dominated by wings this build should be able to help the Cavs get over the mismatch hump. If this team does decide to move on from one of their guards this build will be able to play the same role.
Why? With the overall being the lowest it can be for this project. I decided to go with a player that has great championship DNA for this title defending team. With a team that feels like it has it all figured out I wanted to give the team another guard that wouldn’t take away from any of the other guards even Peyton Pritchard. Being 6’7’’ this build can play alongside any guard on the team. While also being now arguably the best playmaker on the team. This builds defense will be even greater than last years build because of his size.
Why? This build have a great defensive presence. Being able to guard perimeter and post this build gives Young a Swiss army knife defender. His offensive game is similar giving no real stand out talents but solid in nearly all departments. Finding his shots through the offense not really taking the ball out of teammates hands.
Why? This team has no true point guard which this build solves. Being a pass first point guard will hopefully break the sluggish Heat offense. This build has the defense to fit into Heat culture being almost a mini Butler at the pg. This build is fast and will put pressure on the rim but mainly doing this to create a pass. This build will dictate scoring rather than score himself.
Why? With Ball being injured frequently I want to prioritize the team rather than the star. This build will be able to back pack this teams scoring with his shooting some nights. While also contemplating and spacing out the floor when Ball is playing. I think previous center build for this team have taken away from the development of Williams. I’m planning to play the Hornets very differently this year with a lot more floppy and flare movement. Rather than the heavy pick and roll offense it was before.
Why? With losing Hartenstein and injure prone Robinson I think this build will shine in the same role as Hartenstein. This build can not only play the back up big but the PF as well which gives this team even a deeper bench. Because, it’s the Nova Knicks I added a play style similar to college. A lot of post action with lethal midrange but not so much from three. This build will hopefully be a 6’9’’ Josh Hart while also playing alongside Hart. I like the mold of thicker skilled players that don't really on their athleticism that the Knicks have in their star.
Why? This point guard embodies the peak of the Magic point guards of last season. With the defense of Suggs, the build of Black, crafty scoring of Anthony and even better playmaking than Fultz. This build is the Pg the Magic have been looking for. With still being able to be versatile and play the two guard. In order to have a successful season this team must have more breakout play in their talent. This build should help give the ball to the players that need it in the best situations elevating their play.
Why? This team need something to grasp and hold onto. The Nets do have a lot of solid role players but even the highest echelon role player in Mikal Bridges didn’t really move this team anywhere. This build has the scoring ability to make the Nets a team you can’t just take for granted. This build will be one of the best finishers in the league while also having a steady hand in the mid range. Shooting does hold this build back but it gets it back on defense being an elite on ball defender.
Why? Adding an elite fast break scorer who likes to put on a show would match the identity of the Pacers perfectly. Mainly only versatile to being a Sf/Sg this build will get immense use at both positions with how the Pacers dig into their lineups. Hopefully his steals can make up for the poor team defense and can make some stops into easy points.
Why? This build has the ability to play in an offense being a third option with catch and shoot. This build can also be the first option and chain a couple buckets to bring this team that needs help shooting out of some tough spots. Cade has a big upcoming year to show is he a number one guy day in day out or does this build need to step in as the guy. In the best case scenario for this team is that Harris and this build create enough space to have the young be the true focus of the team and play in a congested offense.
Why? Last year was one of the first years I didn’t do a center for the Raptors however, I’m going back to the roots with this all around big. This build will rebound and do all the little things a dirty work center should do but this build goes beyond that. Being able to shoot threes and having a good post presence this build will impact both ends of the court. This build also allows good switch-ability being able to guard smaller defenders. Anchoring the defense and adding an all around offensive game will give the Raptors somewhat of a solution to the dominant bigs. This team can get stagnant on offense this players solution won’t be quick buckets but will be able to contribute limiting scoring droughts.
Why? This build doesn’t necessarily give the team a direction but it will put people in seats. This player can be the entire offense in stretches being extremely crafty at the basket while also throwing in mid range buckets to give some spacing. The one good thing about the wizards is that they do have people who are meant to space the floor in a closing lineup this build will probably be the worst shooter which like I said is more of pro to the Wizards than a con to the player
Only a few more days before the creation of these players but be on the look out for the western conference perfect fit article in the upcoming days. The roster with all the players will be available to the public when NBA2K25 drops so you can run your own simulation. Remember to comment a name for your favorite team so the build can have your chosen name.
