When you’re labeled the “greatest shooter of all time” by fans worldwide, basketball analysts and amongst players from generations of the NBA, then it has to be true. Stephen Curry didn’t know what was going to transpire in his career in the NBA after being drafted by the Golden State Warriors in 2009 besides of just being a great player. Now approaching his 16th season, Curry is a bonafide superstar, first ballot hall of famer and basketball legend. Many fans wonder and debate on if he’s a top 10 player or not. With the success that Curry has had within 15 years, it’s hard to argue that he isn’t.
Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. Those are the guys that have carried the league within their own eras. The forever debate between basketball enthusiasts is who’s the GOAT between Jordan, Bryant and James; but there’s 7 other players in NBA history that need to fill in the spots to make 10. No matter what spot he’s in, consider Stephen Curry to be on that list. Curry averaged 25.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.7 assists throughout his time at Davidson College. Son of Dell Curry who has an elite jumper and still be able to get his teammates involved in the game, Steph had a bright future in the NBA. With playing alongside NBA vet Monta Ellis, Curry was able to have a pretty decent rookie campaign scoring 17.5 points per game and the runner up in winning the Rookie of the Year of that season. As seasons went by, Curry’s game would continue to rise by shooting lights out from the 3 and nailing perimeter shots. At the same time as Curry was turning himself into a superstar, his teammates such as Klay Thompson and Draymond Green would elevate their own games with Curry leading the charge simultaneously developing the Warriors into a championship level team.
By the end of his 6th season, Curry not only won his first MVP award but also led the Warriors to an NBA championship by defeating LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in 6 games. This was just the beginning of the rise to stardom and legendary status for Curry. The following 2015-16 season as the defending champions, the Golden State Warriors would win their first 16 games straight with Curry scoring 118 points; the second player to ever do so since Michael Jordan during the 1989-90 season. The Warriors would go on and win 73 games out of an 82-game season making NBA history. While making history as a team wasn’t enough, Stephen Curry would become the very first unanimous NBA MVP in league history. Now that is what greatness is all about.
After adding 3 championships and a Finals MVP to his resumé, Curry has made a career of defining the odds while creating a whole new path for today’s generation of basketball. By his definite accuracy from 3, fans have said that Curry has changed the game with his amazing play throughout his career and it’s safe to say, he has. There’s evolution within anything in the world but especially in the NBA. From it not being a 3 point line, forcing players to shoot perimeter shots and go to the basket and now players have no problem with the 3 ball with Curry leading the pack by shooting lights out. Stephen may very well be the GOAT to some fans around the world but make no mistake about it, he’s at least a top 10 GOAT in everyone’s eyes.
