NFL Trade Deadline Recap

The NFL trade deadline officially has passed as it ended at 3:00 pm on November 5th. Yesterday was the last day to make any final moves for teams to either make a push or sell the team before the end of the season.

Starting off with the Pitssburgh Steelers. Out of every team this deadline I thought the Steelers did the best job. Offensively this team needed another weapon. With Russell Wilson being the starter for the rest of the season it made sense to add another deep threat. Mike Williams is just that, Williams wasn't panning out in New York it seemed the connection with Rogers wasn't exactly working out. With the addition of Davante Adams the Jets didn't really need Williams anymore. Great move for the Steelers they only had to give up a 5th for a very talented wide receiver. The other move they made was acquiring Preston Smith of the Packers. I don’t think a lot of people saw the Packers selling at this deadline, but since the massive contract to Jordan Love the Packers are tight on money. With this deal they won’t have to pay any of his contract which is due 32 million for the next two seasons. Steelers don’t necessarily need edge, but since Highsmith is still dealing with an injury this trade makes a lot of sense. Even when Highsmith comes back the Steelers will have a great rotation of Watt, Highsmith, and Smith. Not to mention Cam Heyward on the inside, the Steelers definitely have the best defensive line in the NFL. For the Packers they only got a 7th in return, so pretty much nothing. This was more of a salary dump, just a little confusing for a team that is competing for a Super Bowl. I’m guessing since the Green Bay defense has played really well they thought losing Smith wouldn't be too big of a hit.

Most of the deadline was a lot more minor moves. Kansas City picked Uche from New England. Uche is a fine pass rusher, who adds more depth for the Chiefs. The Patriots are selling and they only got a 6th round pick in return. The Bengals acquired Hebert from the Bears. Herbert hasn't played a single snap all season, he’s a solid running back who will be a nice backup in Cincinnati. The Bears move a guy who hasn't played but only received a 7th in return. The Lions acquired Za’Darius Smith from the Browns. With the injury to Hutchinson the Lions definitely needed some assistance off the edge to help them compete for a ring. The Browns got a 5th and 6th round pick. Good move for the Lions and now Smith has played for three out of the four NFC north teams while previously playing for the Packers and Vikings. Lastly, the most controversial trade of the deadline was the Cowboys acquiring Mingo from the Panthers. Mingo has not been a very good receiver this season, he has only 1 yard in the past 4 games. The Cowboys gave up a 4th for him as well. Pretty much a head scratching move, not sure what Jerry was thinking with this one. At least the Panthers were able to sell high on a guy who hasn't been productive for them.

There were two more significant moves. First one being Tre’Davious White to the Ravens. The Ravens didn't really need another corner, but I guess since the rookie Nate Wiggins hasn't been too good they thought about adding another corner alongside Marlon Humphrey. White is one of the best and only had to give up a 6th, great trade for the Ravens. The final good move of the deadline was Marshon Lattimore going to Washington. The Commanders did have to give up a 3rd, 4th, and 6th, but for good value. Lattimore is a top corner and the Commanders biggest need was corner. The Saints have committed to not being competitive this year so at least they were able to get some good draft capital.
