On August 12th the New York Yankees had the worst night of their season losing 12-2 to the Chicago White Sox. In the process newly acquired star from the trade deadline Jazz Chisholm Jr. injuring his UCL (left elbow) sliding into home. The Yankees then proceeded to have one of the most historic nights in their Super-star Aaron Judges career becoming the fastest player to hit three hundred home runs. With both of these roller coaster moments happening what does this overall mean for the team?
Jazz Chisholm has played very good in his 14 games with the Yankees batting a good .316/.361/.702 with seven home runs and five stolen basses. He has been a very good utility for the ball club playing center field and third base. In the games without Jazz they have played Oswaldo Cabrera who has been batting .252/.297/.380 throughout the year. Jazz was exactly what the Yankees were looking for another star bat that complimented Aaron Judges and Juan Sotos play this season. According to CBS Sports Jazz is expected to return in September which would give him sometime to get back into the swing of things. The good thing is that it was his non-throwing hand so even playing on it not 100% could be in the realm of possibility.
In only 955 games Aaron Judge became the fastest player to reach 300 home runs. Ralph Kiner holds second with 1,087 Aaron Judge understands the roller coaster of past couple of days saying “It’s a great achievement,” he said. “Like I said a couple days ago, I was hoping it would come in a win. It came in a big win for us. We were down for a little bit, couldn’t get much going, so I was just excited it was there in a big moment.” quote from AP News. What made this home run so impressive is that in 3-0 count letting three runs in marking his forty third league leading home run.
The Yankees were able to beat the rest of White Sox series games and I believe they can also take care of the Tigers who've they've already beaten once in the series. The next real competitive team they play is the Cleveland Guardians but the Yankees will be at home so the team should come out at least 2/3 of the series. The next real big away game threat is the Texas rangers and by then thats September 2nd so Jazz should be gearing up back to playing around then.
