Klint Kubiak’s Blueprint for the Saints’ Early Offensive Explosion in 2024

Klint Kubiak's impact as the New Orleans Saints' offensive coordinator has been immediate and transformative, catapulting the team to the top of the NFL's offensive rankings through the first two weeks of the 2024-25 season. After a disappointing offensive performance in 2023, the Saints brought in Kubiak to implement a more dynamic and efficient system, and the results have been impressive.

The Saints have averaged an astonishing 45.5 points per game, making them the highest-scoring offense in the league. In their opening game, New Orleans dominated the Carolina Panthers with a 47-10 victory, followed by a commanding 44-19 win over the Dallas Cowboys, who were considered a tough defensive opponent.

Kubiak’s success comes from his ability to blend modern NFL concepts with his background in the Shanahan-Kubiak offensive philosophy. This scheme relies on wide-zone blocking, play-action passing, and pre-snap motion to confuse defenses, allowing quarterback Derek Carr to thrive. In fact, Carr has used play-action on nearly 60% of passing plays, which has created opportunities for big plays, including a 70-yard touchdown to wide receiver Rashid Shaheed.

Additionally, Kubiak's system has revitalized the Saints' rushing attack. Running back Alvin Kamara, supported by efficient zone blocking and creative play design, has already contributed significantly to the team’s success, especially in setting up the passing game.

Much of the success also stems from Kubiak’s ability to simplify the reads for Derek Carr, allowing the quarterback to make quick, decisive throws. The system's reliance on heavy formations, including 12 personnel (one running back and two tight ends), has forced opposing defenses into slower, less agile packages. This creates opportunities for explosive plays through the air while keeping defenses on their heels. As a result, the Saints have exploited matchups to perfection, consistently beating both zone and man coverage.

Kubiak's influence has reinvigorated New Orleans’ offensive identity, shifting it from predictable to versatile. His ability to blend run-heavy formations with a potent aerial attack has made the Saints one of the most unpredictable teams in the league. Whether through Kamara’s dual-threat abilities or Shaheed’s deep-ball prowess, the Saints’ offense is proving to be a nightmare for opposing defenses. As the season progresses, their ability to sustain this balanced attack will be crucial to maintaining their status as one of the NFL’s elite offenses.

Looking ahead, Kubiak and the Saints will face tougher defenses, but if they can maintain their balance and creativity, the sky's the limit. With Kubiak’s track record and the Saints’ confidence at an all-time high, New Orleans could be in the mix for a deep playoff run.
