Kevin Durant is arguably the greatest pure scorer of all time in the NBA. When thinking about basketball players that fans can rely on to get a basket when it counts, Durant’s name has to be in the conversation. What Kevin has brought to the game has been amazing to see for fans of his and will leave a legacy that no one can measure up to. It’s crazy to think that Durant is entering his 17th season in the NBA but even as a veteran, KD is still a 30 point plus player and one of the best players in the league.
As a rookie in the 2007-08 season, Kevin Durant was born to be on the main stage. Averaging 20.3 points, grabbing 4.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists, Durant won the Rookie of the Year award while creating an atmosphere for the Oklahoma City Thunder that no one ever expected. Throughout his 9 seasons in Oklahoma, Durant played at an absolute MVP level every single time he stepped on the court. Playing alongside Russell Westbrook, James Harden and Serge Ibaka, the Thunder had many opportunities to get it done and win a championship especially for the 2013-14 season with Durant winning his first ever MVP award.
Even with falling short in Oklahoma, Durant was still considered a hot commodity during free agency in 2016. Teams were fighting for position to get their hands on KD and he ultimately chose to join the Golden State Warriors in a move that shocked the entire NBA world. It was such a crazy move that even Warriors players couldn’t believe that they just landed the “slim reaper” and the amount of basketball damage that was about to be committed. After 3 successful seasons as a Warrior, Kevin Durant added not one but two NBA championships and 2 NBA Finals MVPs to his resumé; which only solidified his standing amongst the greatest in the game.
Kevin Durant would be on the move to the eastern conference in 2020 as he and Kyrie Irving would collectively agree to terms to join the Brooklyn Nets. Yet another big step and chapter into his career, KD would officially be looked upon as the vet on the team playing along with young ballers such as Nic Claxton, Mike James and Landry Shamet. Irving and Durant would lead the charge to the playoffs only to lose in a nail biter series losing in game 7 with the eventual champs, Milwaukee Bucks. The Nets would add 10-time All Star James Harden to the roster but it never truly worked out with the trio of Durant, Harden and Irving due to many injuries in between the three superstars.
Now as a Phoenix Sun, Durant is unfortunately towards the back end of his career. A couple more seasons, Durant would eventually hang up the shoes and lead to another chapter of his life outside of the game of basketball. As a 14-time All Star, 2-time NBA All Star MVP in 2012 and 2019, 4-time NBA scoring champion in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014 and of course winning twice on the biggest stage of basketball, looking at back on Durant’s career is amazing and to think he’s still playing at an all time level is just as mind boggling. Appreciation is in order for Kevin Durant and his legacy for what he has done for the game and continues to do.
