Minnesota Vikings quarterback JJ McCarthy is out for the season after tearing his meniscus. He received surgery this past week, and will most likely be back for the 2025-26 season.
The 10th overall pick was chosen to be the future face of the franchise, and he was going to learn under Sam Darnold this year. McCarthy has shown some promise in training camp, and the future is bright for the Vikings.
“He's confirmed everything that I hoped to see early in training camp through his performance last Saturday," coach Kevin O'Connell said, "but our fan base and everyone should just be excited about the fact that we've got our young franchise quarterback, I believe, in the building. And now it's about the unique aspect of continuing a very critical development process for him, where maybe the physical reps aren't going to be there in the short term, but this is going to be a small bump in the road."
McCarthy’s season is over before it even started, but Minnesota fans and players are excited for the future. As of right now, Sam Darnold is the starter for Minnesota, and he’s looking to finally prove himself after a tough start to his NFL career.
