Bills-Dolphins Recap and Storylines Going Into Week 2

Week 2 of the NFL season started out with a dud on Thursday night in a game between the Dolphins and the Bills. This was supposed to be a really good matchup on paper and one that was supposed to come down to the wire. Instead, the Bills dominated this game in Miami from start to finish and never took their foot off of the gas.

James Cook was by far the player of the game, with 11 carries for 78 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns, along with a receiving touchdown. That is a good sign for the Bills this season because it means Josh Allen does not have to do it all by himself through the air. If the Bills can keep running the ball consistently it makes them a more balanced team on offense and makes them a bigger threat in the AFC.

Before I dive into the Dolphins offense, I just want to start out by saying prayers to Tua. With that being said, he did not play his best game tonight and neither did the rest of the Dolphins offense. Tua threw 3 costly interceptions which all resulted in points, and the offense line was able to consistently block up front. Specifically Ed Oliver. It seemed Oliver was in the backfield all night for the Bills stopping the run. The one positive for the Dolphins offense was that De’Von Achane played tonight. He led the team in rushing and receiving. If he didn’t play the Dolphin's offense would have looked even worse. Going forward for the Dolphins, there is no way they win if both Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle are both held under 50 receiving yards and are both under 5 catches. You have to be able to get the ball into your key playmaker's hands. This may be an Overreaction but based on last nights game the Bills are for real and the Dolphins were a one hit wonder and are not making the playoffs this year.

The Bears go on the road this week to Houston for Sunday Night Football. This will be Caleb William's first road game in the NFL and his first primetime game in the NFL. This is a big spot for the rookie going against a contender in the AFC under the lights. It will be interesting to see how the offense game plans this week after the offensive performance against the Titans in which Caleb Williams had under 100 yards passing. Will the Bears take more shots or will they keep it conservative with their young rookie? The Texans might not give them a choice if they are able to turn this game into a shootout.

Justin Fields is getting the start again for the Steelers on the road against the Broncos. This is intriguing because if the Steelers win again with Fields under center, it will make it really hard for them to go to Russell Wilson. Wilson is still bothered by a calf injury he suffered in training camp that reagravated prior to week 1 against the Falcons. In Fields’ last start against the Broncos he threw for 330 yards last year. Hopefully he performs well because I believe he is the best option for the Steelers this season if he is able to take care of the football and just be a game manager.

The last intriguing storyline is the loser leaves town game between the Browns and the Jaguars in Jacksonville. Whoever loses this game is going to start out 0-2 and will have a really tough hill to climb. I do not think either team is a serious Super Bowl contender, but I believe that the winner of this game is a threat for a wild card spot. For the Browns, Deshaun Watson needs to start playing better football. If he does not start playing better, the Browns are going to have to cut their losses and bench him for Jameis Winston. Winston would at least give this Browns team a spark and would reenergize the team, as well as the fanbase. Now for the Jaguars, Trevor Lawrence really needs to start playing like he deserved the contract he was given. He got paid way too much to be playing mediocre football.

I am looking forward to a great weekend of football. Hopefully we get some exciting games and some good Quarterback play unlike last week. So let’s all sit back, relax, and enjoy 10 hours of uninterrupted football.
